1854 (Oct 18), Entire letter from Shevaroy Hills, Salem to England via Madras and Marseilles, franked with horizontal pair and three singles of 1a. red, Die I, tied by diamond of dots and pair by red London transit cds, red INDIA PAID in crescent alongside, on reverse with trisected "SALEM/1854 October 20/Paid." d/s in red, small trisected Madras transit d/s and Newcastle-on-Thyne '5 Dec 54' arrival dater. One single stamp with touched margins, the pair and others with complete to huge margins, letter with few traces of usage/ageing, but still good. A scarce and attractive 5 Annas franking.
