Portsmouth. 1843 Entire letter from Kingston, Jamaica to Aberdeen endorsed "Consignee P. Scotsman" backstamped "PORTSMOUTH / SHIP LETTER" (Rob. S13), a red "(crown) / EXEMPT SHIP LR" (Rob. Ex2) then applied on the front at London, backstamped at London, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Exempt from the ship letter charge, but charged 3d, the unpaid inland rate of 2d + 1d Masters gratuity. A fine and scarce exempt ship letter. Photo on Page 237.
